The Supply Teacher, an award-winning short on autism, bullying and LGBT inclusion filmed in Islington, screens at ArtHouse Crouch End on Thursday 12 November.

The Supply Teacher, a short drama filmed in Islington about an autistic student and the supply teacher who forms a bond with him, returns to the big screen at ArtHouse Crouch End on Thursday 12 November for what its makers call a one year anniversary screening.

The screening is organised by Movie Making Media and BJL Entertainment. Doors open at 6.30pm and the film starts at 7pm at ArtHouse, 159A Tottenham Lane, N8 9BT. The invitation asks guests to arrive between 6.30pm and 6.55pm.

The film

Movie Making Media’s page for the film sums it up in one line: “A supply teacher returns to his old college and forms a bond with an autistic student, only to discover the school isn’t what it used to be.” The poster’s tagline is “One classroom. Two voices. A battle against silence, power and prejudice.”

It stars Nick Field and Bryan Lamb. Lamb directed it and wrote it with Jack RH O’Sullivan, who was also director of photography. The producers are Max Bayford, Jack RH O’Sullivan, Jack Grint and Bryan Lamb.

Jack Grint, film producer and co-CEO of Movie Making Media, said the film “explores important social issues including bullying, autism and LGBT inclusion.”

“Through storytelling, we hope to encourage conversation, raise awareness and shine a light on issues that affect individuals and communities,” he said.

Awards so far

According to the production company, the film won two awards at the London Indie Film Festival in 2025: Best Film on Disability Issue and Debut Filmmaker. It was also selected for the Lift-Off Filmmaker Sessions and First-Time Filmmaker in 2025, and the poster carries a four-star rating from UK Film Review.

Movie Making Media describes itself as an independent production company that brings early-career filmmakers into real productions. The Supply Teacher sits in its catalogue alongside other shorts on autism, dementia, Tourette’s and mental health, including Teardrops from a Clown and Lost & Found.

Who will be there

“The premiere will bring together the cast and crew, local organisations and members of the film industry to celebrate independent filmmaking and the themes at the heart of the story,” Grint said. “As the film has connections to the local area, we believe it could be of interest to your readers.”

The company calls the evening a premiere; the invitation itself describes it as “the one year anniversary screening” of the film.
